Chatting to a client from Mudgee recently about his plans for a Loft Barn, we realised there’s a few really helpful things you should know before you purchase or build a loft barn, and a few key questions you’d probably love the answers to.
So here’s the answers to all of the important questions about Loft Barns.
A Loft Barn is a traditional, high-walled building with an A-Frame roof, and an internal ‘loft’ that creates a second level.
Often featuring traditional barn doors and wooden cladding, they can be painted or stained and add classic charm to any property.
The answer to this is really up to you! If you’re going to be using the Barn as a Garage (hey, nice garage!), then you’ll want to arrange a concrete slab, which we can install your barn onto.
If you’re not using it as a garage, or you want to be able to transport the barn easily in the future, you can purchase a raised timber floor system with your Cedarspan Barn. This system uses piers to elevate the barn off the ground, and creates a timber floor inside that you can stain or add floor coverings (tiles, carpet, floorboards) on top.
(And if youre thinking…. termites?? Don;t worry, it’s all treated, and complies with Australian Building Standards, so you’re safe).
Cedarspan Loft Barns come in a range of sizes, from approximately 20m2 up to 80m2. Larger barns and other customisations are available upon request.
The answer to this depends on size and options, so we recommend downloading our pricelist which contains prices + dimensions.
Compared to a ‘traditional build’, a prefab barn has cost-saving and time-saving benefits. Not only is it a set price, the whole installation is done in a week, meaning you get to use your new barn quicker!!

We’ll pre-make your Barn in sections in our factory, and then send it (with instructions and video tutorials), ready for your builder to assemble onsite for you.
Most installations are completed in under a week.
We’ve got just the solution for that! Simply purchase your barn with some of our handcrafted barn doors, and then attach Gate Automation to the doors. With a press of a button, your barn doors will swing open and you can drive into your new barn/garage/buildingthatmakesneighboursjealous. It’ll work like a treat! #thankuslater!
Ok, reeeally good news on this point!
In NSW, if your property is Rural-Zoned, you can add a barn up to 200m2 in size without council approval!
Outside of NSW, or non-rural properties, we recommend checking with your local council to get their advice.
Good question! When you’re standing in the loft, there’s 2.4m to the highest point, and it tapers down to 60cm on the sides. (Yep, it feels roomy. And a bit whimsical. And very instagrammable. ;) )
We’ve got quite a few barns on display at our factory in Girraween, NSW (about a 40 minute drive from the Sydney CBD). It’s amazing to be able to experience them in person. To feel the wood grain, undo the latch and swing open the door. To step inside and be able to picture what you will create in your barn.
