A Country Oasis, a Tree Change Dream

It’s the perfect place to escape from city life.

Set on 224 acres, this rural oasis adjoins a national park.

Making a move from Sydney to Laguna, Alistair planned a prefab Cedarspan™ project for his rural property.

40H50 with cedar upgrade, rear enclosed verandah, front verandah, deck and elevated floor, and steel pier upgrade

For ten years, he and his wife called it home.

“It was a beautifully designed cabin. Everything fitted like a glove.”

Alistair chose a 40H50 and customised the design with an enclosed verandah.

“When I was talking to Doug, we designed it with the bathroom and laundry on the back verandah rather than putting them internally.”

Step inside, and the Cedarspan™ steel trusses are a standout feature of the open plan living area.

“We didn’t bother painting the trusses. Those are part of the bones of the property.”

The unpainted Cedarspan™ steel trusses give the cabin a distinct look

That modern rustic theme continues throughout the kitchen.

“I had a ladder hanging up over the island bench with the chain so that it melded in with the unpainted trusses.”

Alistair completed the fit-out with a modern country interior

An off the grid lifestyle was ideal for Alistair, using the second bedroom as his work from home office.

“I worked remotely for 20 years, so it was one of the reasons we went bush.”

“It’s lovely, no traffic, no travelling. It was nice working from there with the bush setting from the cabin’s perspective.”

Inside the Cedarspan™ main bedroom

Comfortable and cosy, like a country cabin should be.

“It was a warm house. We had a combustion fireplace plus a wood-burning AGA.”

The wood-burning AGA cooker adds extra warmth to the country style kitchen

The prefab Cedarspan™ provided ease of construction, making it a DIY project.

“My son, he’s a plumber. He’s pretty handy. If you have a bit of practicality in you, I think anyone can do it.”

“The manual was great. We put it up ourselves. We got a lot of friends up for one weekend. We put the walls up and the roof on, and we had it to lock up stage in one weekend, which was amazing.”

Ease of construction with a prefab Cedarspan™ made it a DIY project

For many of us, Covid has brought about unexpected change. As Alistair’s life changed, he too embraced a new challenge.

“I had been made redundant, and I decided to retire. So we enacted our retirement plan, which was to sell the property and find our next stage of a house somewhere else.”

“It was a great experience to live off the grid. It was the right time to sell. We loved it, and it was time for the next stage.”

Last year, as city dwellers were looking to make a tree change, Alistair listed his property on the market.

“It was such a good time to sell.”

“With Covid, because there was such a surge of people wanting to buy a property outside of Sydney.”

“We managed to sell it in four weeks.”

“Normally, it takes a year to sell a property. It went like hotcakes.”

The Cedarspan™ front verandah: country living at its best

Despite parting with the property, Alistair keeps in touch with the new owners.

“They are enjoying the isolation there.”

“We intend to go back and stay the weekend with the new owners and hand over some more knowledge of the property.”

The ultimate tree change: off the grid living in Laguna, NSW

Would he do it all again?

“I would probably go for a bigger one.”

“I think value for money it’s the best thing you can get.”

“The affordability and the design are just brilliant.”

Genny and Steven’s Charming Country Getaway

“It was the love of my life.”

“I can’t talk about it without having a cry.”

Parting with her beloved cabin was a tough decision for Genny.

“It was beautiful.”

“We’ve had some lovely homes, but there is nothing that will ever mean to me as much as that place.”

It’s been four years since she and her husband Steven sold their property, but the memory of the place is as strong as ever.

“So many people were involved and had some little piece of them there. That’s what made it special,” Genny explained.

“When my mum passed away, we inherited a little bit of money from her and what we had saved.”

“We had enough to buy a small block of land and then it all went from there.”

Genny had long dreamed of owning a country cabin, and she soon realised that dream.

“I saw in a magazine, Cedarspan’s™ ad of the cabin, the small one, and I said to Steven, that’s the one I want.”

“I had it posted on my fridge for years.”

The couple had drawn inspiration from their lives overseas.

“I had seen a cabin similar to that one so many times when we used to go skiing in America, and we thought one day we’d have a cabin like this.”

And one day, they did.

A Cedarspan™ 30C30 was a perfect choice for Genny and Steven’s country retreat.

“We didn’t want a big cabin. We wanted an intimate space that both of us could enjoy,” Steven said.

“We had a budget and they managed that whole thing.”

Genny and Steven created an idyllic weekend escape, which their dog, Scooter, equally loved.

“We wanted somewhere he could roam and enjoy himself and where I could put all my mum’s things and all my collectables from the U.S. and Canada where we had lived.”

From planning to building, Genny recalls the whole process.

“From the day that I saw it in the magazine to going there to Cedarspan™ to meet Doug and what a wonderful person he was. It was meant to be.”

She recounts how the installation of the cabin became a project for their family and the locals.

A hard day’s work for Scooter the dog

The Cedarspan™ prefab panels going up

“Even the staining of the cabin, my sister and my niece helped with that.”

“This lovely old handyman in the town of Neville helped us lift the panels, and it was the windiest day!”

“He loved Scooter, so he made this funny rustic sign and hung it up. It was ‘Scooter’s Lodge.’”

Genny & Steven’s cabin was named ‘Scooter’s Lodge’

In summing up, Genny says it best.

“It was one of the greatest achievements of our lives.”

“How much longer have you got, and I’ll keep talking!”

This Majestic Cedar Barn is a Family’s Multipurpose Space

It was a childhood memory that inspired Scott to build a barn.

“My father had a cedar shed when I was younger. I was looking to create something similar that suited the property.”

That’s when Scott came across Cedarspan™

“I was searching a few sites on the internet. It was convenient that we didn’t have to build from scratch.”

Prefab Cedarspan™ Loft Barn 30H40 installed to lock-up stage

30H40 with cedar upgrade, cedar French doors and windows, and barn-style double doors

On an acre of land, a short distance from the home, this traditional barn provides a family with valuable space.

“It’s a workshop, music and storage area, and garden shed.”

How’s that for multipurpose?

Scott customised the design with loft balustrades and ladder

Making the move from Sydney, Scott and his family relocated to the Southern Highlands a few years ago.

These days, he and his wife are giving their teenage kids a taste of the simpler life with a focus on family.

“I feel pleased to be able to offer that to them. It’s been a worthwhile move for us.”

When asked what his favourite moment from the barn has been so far, the answer is simple.

“It’s the kids playing their instruments and our family standing around listening to them.”

Form meets function: A traditional barn and a multifunctional space

And while it’s a space the whole family enjoys, it’s become somewhat of a man cave.

“I get teased a little bit. It’s always claimed that I have all these things in the barn, yet I try and make sure everything is neat in the house.”

A mechanic by trade, Scott enjoys having a workshop on his rural property.

“I always love being in it, I guess. I love the ability to go somewhere and spend some time that isn’t so structured.”

“I don’t need to go in there with a plan, but I can come out with feeling like I’ve achieved something.”

For those who visit, the reaction is almost always the same.

“The common feedback is ‘oh, love that!’”

“They tend to enjoy what it looks like from the outside looking in. Sometimes, if people do end up coming in, it’s got the split level in there, and they see it as practical.”

As this traditional barn meets both form and function, its owner would happily do it all again.

“Ours has been fantastic.”

“I would be happy to use Cedarspan™ again should we buy another place and need to do that.”

A Cosy Cabin, a Family’s Great Escape

Here at Hanging Rock, a few hours from Sydney, a family created lasting memories.

It’s where Craig and Christina decided they would build a home, a holiday retreat.

“I decided on a Cedarspan™ for the simplicity of the build. Also, the fact it came on the back of a truck I found to be quite appealing,” Craig explained.

For six years, the family of five enjoyed their much-loved escape from the city.

“It was a lifestyle choice to build it, and in the time we had it, we certainly used it to the utmost.”

In 2015, the family was forced to put the country cabin on the market.

“My job was looking a little shaky. But, as it turned out, it was a worst-case scenario.”

“We sold it without any problems, and the people who bought it are in love with it.”

It was a conversation with the neighbour which inspired the build.

“We were talking to him over the fence. He said, ‘I bought it from Cedarspan™’. I thought rightio, so we did a bit of research, and the rest is history.”

Craig added corrugated iron around the base, preventing animals from getting under the home

Fast forward six years, and Craig still holds satisfaction in building the Cedarspan™.

“It took us about six weeks from woe to go. That’s not a bad effort.”

“In the end, we stood back and quite admired it, quite proud of the job we did.”

Craig and Christina completed the fit-out, adding their own finishing touches

The couple chose the 30H50 Loft Cabin with Western Red Cedar cladding which they stained with Cedarshield™.

The prefab Cedarspan™ provided ease of construction, making it a DIY project.

“I’m not a builder. My mate was a builder. He was a carpenter by trade, and between the both of us, we had no problem erecting it and installing it. It was a good quality build.”

Craig also recalls the process of designing his cabin with the Cedarspan™ team.

“I do remember there was a good degree of professionalism about it.”

“It was a simple procedure. Nothing seemed to be out of bounds. You were only limited to your imagination.”

The 30H50 with cedar upgrade, additional verandah and deck, and elevated floor

Craig and Christina turned their holiday home into a cosy, relaxing retreat. They incorporated natural hardwood with muted colours.

“We painted the inside panelling white. It was pine we put around that.”

Staining the Cedarspan™ floor brings out the natural pattern of the wood

Craig and his wife recently returned to Hanging Rock, receiving the ultimate compliment.

“We went back there last year and knocked on the door of the people who bought it, and it was exactly how it was when we sold it.”

“It was like walking back in time.”

How’s the serenity? A spacious Cedarspan™ verandah to relax and enjoy the view

It’s an investment the couple are happy to have made.

“The product we got was reflective of the price. It was affordable.”

“I have no hesitation in buying another one and doing it again, and you can do it at your leisure.”

When it comes to leisure, the highlight for Craig was soaking up the serenity.

“We had magnificent sunsets there because we faced to the West. You can sit on that verandah and watch the sun go down and drink a bottle of wine.”

“That is the one thing I really do miss.”

A Vibrant Beach Cottage, a Place for Happy Family Memories

It was 2017 when Philip and Helene added a Cedarspan™ to their Kioloa property.

And four years on, the sentiment is simple.

“The value add is enormous. We are still glad with the investment we made.”

The couple chose a Cedarspan™ 30H60 Loft Cottage in board and batten.

The Cedarspan™ 30C60 Loft Cottage in board and batten with Colorbond roof in Monument. Painting by Philip

“My wife looked around at various possibilities for kit houses. We liked the flexibility. We could make our own, and we did,” Philip explained.

“The other thing we looked at was the years Cedarspan™ has already been in the business. So those two factors were most important.”

Cedarspan™ has been building prefab barns, cabins and cottages around Australia since 1976.

With that long-running company history comes a commitment to personalised customer service.

“In terms of working with Cedarspan™, the product itself, and the end result I would say absolutely go for it.”

Northwood Cottage, Kioloa is a popular Airbnb stay

“The advantage is that we designed it ourselves, and we built it the way we wanted it.”

Philip and Helene’s vision for their property was a beach cottage.

The Cedarspan™ high-pitched roof and loft give the room a spacious ambience.

“Because the ceilings are so high, the open plan area feels large.”

Philip & Helene customised their design with a skylight and balustrades to the loft area

The couple added two verandahs and decks, making room for more lifestyle space.

And to give the cottage a distinctive look, they chose cedar French doors and cedar windows.

The cedar window and cedar French door upgrade creates a striking contrast

Known as Northwood Cottage Kioloa, Philip says it’s a place for happy memories.

“It’s always the Christmas holidays that are the favourite moments when the whole family is there.”

While the couple has created the perfect holiday cottage, their only wish is to spend more time there.

“The fact that we’re six hours away from Kioloa, you can’t do it over a weekend. If it were closer, we would definitely go more often.”

When the family isn’t occupying it, Northwood Cottage is a popular Airbnb stay.

“It gives us the flexibility to book it when we need it.”

Philip & Helene added two verandahs and decks, and an elevated floor

The quality of the prefab cottage also gives Philip peace of mind.

“During the six months when we rented it out long term. There was a massive storm in that area.”

“Nothing broke. Nothing fell off. It withstood the storm. The structure is solid, and we can rely on it.”

Tony and Julie’s Stunning Getaway with 4 Luxury Cedarspan Cabins

For two decades, this has been a family-owned working farm.

2018 signalled a new era for the 120 acres when Tony and Julie opened their gates to holiday-makers.

And it’s where four Cedarspan™ Loft Cabins shape a stunning country venue.

“They are all part of Lake Oberon Estate. It’s a venue for weddings and corporate events and group gatherings.”

“We also have it as an option for people to hire each cabin out for a weekend away from the city,” Tony said.

It was 2013 when Tony and Julie began bringing their vision to life. They chose 4 Cedarspan™ 40H70 loft cabins for their property.

“I was going for the country look, and that’s why I ended up choosing Cedarspan™. I found Doug really helpful, so that was also another factor.”

Cedarspan™ 40H70 with cedar upgrade and two additional verandahs

Cedarspan™ structures are customisable. This feature allowed Tony the flexibility to choose a design that suited his needs and spending plan.

“I sat down with Doug and we worked through it together. I created my own custom design, working with Doug knowing what I could and couldn’t change. It made it fit my budget.”

The couple has since created an idyllic escape from the city.

Today, Lake Oberon Estate is a luxury five-star getaway.

“The majority of people who come here want to get away from Sydney, so they turn off their phones. They don’t want the wi-fi, and in some cases, they don’t even want the TV.”

Tony and Julie completed the internal fit-out, choosing a modern rustic look.

Inside the 40H70 with optional additional loft. Fit-out by Julie and Tony

The stone feature wall and the fireplace is the focal point.

But it’s the Cedarspan™ high-pitched ceiling that creates the welcoming atmosphere.

“We added more insulation, so when you turn on that wood fire heater, the place heats up and stays warm.”

Before managing the popular Airbnb destination, Tony ran his own software company.

“I was supposed to retire five years ago, and it was something for me to do and for my wife to do. It’s become a big monster for us to handle on our own. It’s more of a retirement hobby.”

The tree change has also been a rewarding experience.

“What makes it for me is the people you meet. We’ve had some high-profile people like politicians.”

And while Tony’s newfound lifestyle has been an adjustment, he couldn’t imagine living anywhere else.

“We still have our place in Sydney, and our kids live there. I only go there for necessity. I can’t handle the traffic anymore. When you’re up here and if you’ve got four cars in the heart of Oberon, that’s considered a traffic jam.”

Two Cedarspan Cabins, a Red Door and One Spectacular View

Here on this Southern Highlands property, a red door joins two Cedarspan™ cabins.

Nordic inspiration sets the scene where classic charm meets minimalism.

Nordic inspiration: Two Cedarspan™ cabins joined by an annex

It was 1996 when the first cabin was built, inspiring its new owners to replicate it.

“We moved here nine years ago, and it was always here.”

“We thought it’s easy to add on another section. We wanted to copy that and add it on here,” Maren explained.

Built to last: The original Cedarspan™ cabin was installed in 1996

Maren and her husband, David, then began the process of bringing their vision to reality.

“When they first put up the bottom part, that was so exciting. We were running around thinking it’s so big, and the next day it was finished.”

For the barn’s exterior, Maren found an unusual source of inspiration.

“I had the horse paddocks with post and rail fences redone, so I used this black paint called ‘StudX’. I was obsessed with it, and then everything was painted black.”

“This paint goes into the wood. You still see the grain, so it is a strong stain, and it lasts for a very long time.”

Maren and David extended their deck area for the ultimate pool house experience

Rustic Luxury: An outdoor shower with a view

Step inside, and it’s all about the view.

“I saw it in a magazine, and I thought I love that.”

“It makes the room. It’s beautiful. We absolutely love it.”

What a view! The bay window was added by Maren and David

The bay window isn’t the only feature that gives the room a wow factor.

Maren painted the Cedarspan™ steel trusses black, enhancing the high-pitched ceiling’s striking appearance.

“I thought it is more interesting to look at rather than a flat surface.”

Six years on, Maren shares fond memories of having the new Cedarspan™ installed.

The Cedarspan™ 20C40 cabin with cedar upgrade and Colorbond roof in Woodland Grey

“It was very easy. We ordered it, they gave us a date, and they built it in the time frame.”

While insulation to the roof and all walls are standard features of all Cedarspan™ structures, Maren opted to make it cosier.

“We put in insulation from underneath, and it made a huge difference.”

“It’s comfortable, and it’s always a good temperature in here.”

Maren has added a wood heater in her Cedarspan™ cabin, creating a cosy loungeroom

Maren credits her mother for the idea to join the two Cedarspan™ cabins with an annex.

“My mother is living in Germany. She’s been here a few times, and she loves it.”

In keeping with the Nordic theme, she has combined simplicity with comfort.

“I never wanted too much stuff to clutter it.”

“Everyone who stays here loves it.”

For the kitchen, she paired neutral colours with a distinctive splashback.

“I wanted that green Scandinavian theme.”

Joined by an annex: where the two Cedarspan™ cabins meet

Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, Maren has truly settled into country life.

“My daughter is in Sydney. I go quite a bit to see her.”

“Do I miss it? Do I want to live there? Probably not!”

Cosy Cedarspan Cottage Makes the Perfect Weekend Retreat

Charming.

Picturesque.

And red.

This eye-catching cabin is a custom-made Cedarspan™, set on six acres of land, surrounded by English gardens.

Welcome to St Clement’s Cottage in Oberon.

The Cedarspan™ Verandah Design 3040, measures 7.2m x 5.6m

Karen, one of its owners, found inspiration for the colour while overseas.

“18 years ago, we were in France, and we saw a red house on a hill, and I thought we’ll go back and paint the house red, and my husband said ‘red’?”

When they had their Cedarspan™ cottage installed in 2011, they painted it to look like a natural extension of the house.

“It complements the autumn foliage, and we do have snow, so the red looks fabulous in the snow.”

The Cedarspan™ cottage (left) looks like a natural extension of the main house (right)

Winter Wonderland, the Cedarspan™ cottage looking picture perfect in the snow

Karen and her husband, David chose the Verandah Design 3040, which includes a high pitch roof, elevated floor, verandah, and deck.

As optional extras, they added cedar windows and a cedar entrance door.

They wanted vertical timber for the exterior, so they chose board and batten cladding.

“We thought it might look good to match the house, and everybody seems to say the same thing.”

The Cedarspan™ cottage in board and batten cladding with additional cedar door and windows

The Oberon couple has since had a custom-designed Melwood garden room installed on the property.

“It’s a mini version of the cottage,” Karen said.

“It’s a garden shed, and it’s quite a feature. It’s like a ladies’ cave for me by the vegetable garden.”

The custom Melwood Verandah 10, measuring 3.6m x 2.6m is used as a garden shed

Inside the Melwood, here’s what lock-up stage looks like with the visible foil sarking. External painting by Karen and David

And in keeping with the theme, David has built a cubby house inspired by the cottage.

“Everyone thinks it’s a Cedarspan™,” Karen laughed.

In the coming weeks, Karen and David will have another Melwood garden room installed.

“We’re going to leave that as a cedar. We don’t want to overdo the red!”

The cottage has since become a popular holiday stay on Airbnb, but family always comes first.

“We have children and grandchildren, and everyone always wants the cottage.”

“It’s almost a lottery for who gets the cottage!”

Karen and David have created a warm and cosy cottage

Over the last decade, Karen says the Cedarspan™ has changed their lifestyle, giving them an appreciation for the simple things in life.

“It’s slowed us down to stop and smell the roses.”

Cedarspan™ and Melwood™ are registered and trademarked brands of the Greenspan Group, a family-owned and operated company since 1976.

A Warm and Cosy Home, a Daughter’s Gift to Her Mother

One in seven Australians is over 65.

And as our population ages, more and more families are caring for their parents.

“Having your independence and having community nearby is part of your humanity. It’s what builds our confidence and what makes you feel capable and needed.”

When Emma needed a comfortable and safe home for her 87-year-old mother, Elma, she chose a Cedarspan™ cottage.

“She had spent years with us taking care of her, and she felt ready to live a bit more independently again but wasn’t ready to stray too far away from us.”

Classic charm, the Cedarspan™ cottage looks right at home in the Southern Highlands

When the family moved from Victoria to the Southern Highlands, they bought an acre of land, intending to build a cottage close to the main house.

“We are in a weatherboard cottage; it’s about 100 years old. We wanted something that was a natural echo of that.”

Emma chose a 30C50 with cedar upgrade and an additional verandah along the length.

“All the people I dealt with, and any flexibility I wanted with it, there was always an openness for discussion. They were fantastic.”

“We added the stairs, and we put the verandah on the front in a way that we could then potentially add a ramp for mum if we do get to that stage.”

The customisable Cedarspan™ has given the family flexibility to add a ramp for improved access

The cottage has been renovated to suit Elma’s needs.

“She’s had a major stroke since then.”

“My brother did a lot of the fit-out for the kitchen and laundry to her specifications.”

“It’s an adjustable little design, and it amazes me how flexible it can continue to be.”

Emma’s brother completed the fit-out for the kitchen and laundry

Roof and wall insulation is a standard feature of all Cedarspan™ cabins.

“I put some good heating in as well, and because it’s so well insulated, it heats and cools so beautifully and easily for her.”

Emma has created a warm and comfortable home for her mother

Handcrafted and customisable, this classic Cedarspan™ cottage provided a straightforward and convenient process for the family.

“Cedarspan™ had a lot of options. The fact that you can change dimensions and measurements, those things worked well.”

“The price point was pretty fantastic for what you get in the end. It’s an enormous amount of work.”

“Very, very quickly up pops up this gorgeous little home.”

The foundation: Our Cedarspan™ Engineered GRID Pier Floor System results in extra stability

Quick assembly, saving you from lengthy, messy, and noisy construction

Once installed to lock-up stage, Emma chose to complement the character and charm of the Southern Highlands area and the main house.

Cedarspan™ 30C50 with cedar upgrade, measures 5.6m x 9m

“We wanted something fairly neutral, so we went with dark charcoal that would blend into the landscape a bit more.”

“We didn’t want to go into contemporary, new-age designs.”

“It looks quite natural and beautiful in the setting.”

Cedarspan Barn Endures Black Summer Bushfires

145km from Sydney, on an isolated 100-acre property, stands a Cedarspan cabin.

Robust, resilient, and unscathed.

It endured one of the worst bushfire seasons in Australia’s history, known as Black Summer.

Simon, the barn’s previous owner, tells of its incredible survival.

“Waiting with bated breath,” he asked, ‘have I got a cabin still?’

It was standing there on its own.”

The aftermath: The Cedarspan barn stands strong after the devastating bushfires of January 2020

When the devastating Morton bushfire swept through the Southern Highlands, Simon was up North with family helping clear land for harvest.

“Watching the RFS fire website, watching where the fires were moving, I couldn’t leave, so it was a bit hopeless just watching this on the app on the phone.”

Realising how destructive the fires were, Simon called on his friends who drove from Wollongong to remove essentials and valuables from his cabin.

“Anything that was explosive or flammable, petrol, diesel, gas containers, lubricants, grease, we actually loaded up the bunker.”

Simon’s bunker was loaded up with flammables in preparation for the bushfires

On January 4, 2020, at 7:25 pm, the security camera on his property captured the moment the destruction erupted.

“The embers were starting to come through on the camera, and the motion of it was actually triggering the camera, and that went for about over an hour.”

Simon recounts the eerie feeling of watching the surveillance footage for the first time.

“It would have been 6 minutes when it did hit. It just burnt so hot and hard that it just went straight through in that time. It burnt everything in that instant.”

When Simon did return, he was amazed.

“Chest out shoulders back, telling the world have you got something better than that?”

In the aftermath, the area was patrolled by workers from Forestry, RFS, and National Parks.

“Some have come in on my bunker and scribbled onto the soot.

They scribbled ‘lucky’ onto the door of my bunker.”

But some weren’t so fortunate.

“There was a neighbour 600 metres to my east, and it was brick, older style brick, sandstone, and he lost that. It burnt to the ground.”

When asked what could have possibly saved a timber barn from a raging fire?

“By putting *CEDARSHIELD™ on, it seals it,” Simon explained.

“I had only just put two coats on the southern side, so the fire side two weeks before I went north.

You can rub your hand up and down the timber, no splinters whatsoever. It’s just more of that glazed feel on it, so you know you are also reducing the flammable property of the timber.”

“I suppose if I hadn’t put in a bunker, hadn’t cleared it, hadn’t put *CEDARSHIELD™ on, and hadn’t prepared, I perhaps would have been lucky, but I’ve done all those things.”

One year on from the bushfires, the area is beginning to thrive.

“The southern highlands is probably greener and brighter than it’s been before.

A lot of the big trees are still in shock, and they’re shooting out a limb.”

For five years, the barn was Simon’s getaway and a place for family and friends to enjoy camping, mountain biking, kayaking, and bushwalking.

To this day, Simon’s favourite memory from the cabin is the day it was installed.

“When the boys were putting the cabin up, I went up there I missed them on the first day.

When the walls were put up, I just realised the size of it.

It was perhaps beyond my expectations, and it’s a solid piece of kit.”

Day 2: The Cedarspan crew working through the night to complete installing ‘The Hills Barn’

Simon’s property borders both a national park and a forest, the only access for the Cedarspan crew was 50 minutes of 4-wheel driving through fire trails, with no mobile reception.

“I know how hard it is to get in and get out. They didn’t even comment on that. They just did it. Put the cabin up.”

Once installed to lock-up stage, Simon made it his own.

“I like the contrast the standout. The red door for me it was a standout. When you see it, it’s a beacon looking back through the bush.”

Now, Simon is in the process of looking at another Cedarspan barn for his new property.

“I’ve already been in touch and sounded out some ideas and enquired about product turnaround times which are way ahead of many other companies.”
